DOT Exams

According to federal guidelines, each commercial driver must pass the Department of Transportation health exam. This special medical screening helps ensure that drivers meet certain requirements before getting onto the road as part of their employment.

At Lance O’Connor Chiropractic, we know just how important it is to work with a doctor who understands this process. Dr. O’Connor is a certified medical examiner and is listed on the national registry. Click here to view. We offer a basic health exam, vision screening, and health history review to help you obtain your CDL license.

We Understand the Necessary Guidelines and Government Regulations

In California, the list of requirements for passing the DOT examination is quite lengthy. Examples of requirements include (but are not limited to):

  • Vision Ability to Distinguish Color
  • Hearing Good Enough to Hear a Whisper at Five Feet of Distance
  • Vision at Least 20/40 (With or Without Correction)
  • Maximum Allowable Blood Pressure of 139/89
  • No Use of a Scheduled 1 Drug, Amphetamine, or Narcotic is Allowed

Dr. O’Connor will help you navigate the process and determine where your health needs match up with all governmental requirements. We will also provide you with all necessary paperwork for applying or renewing your CDL license.

Once Every Two Years

In most cases, drivers are only required to take the medical examination once every two years. However, if a significant health problem arises, there may be a need for another certification review at any time. Dr. O’Connor can help you determine whether an additional review is needed based on your existing symptoms.

Adding Chiropractic Care to Help with Your Job

Many workers who require a CDL license often experience back or neck pain. Why? Spending long hours in the cab of a truck or lifting heavy deliveries can be difficult on the body. This is why Lance O’Connor Chiropractic works to ensure you are healthy for your exam and during the course of your employment. If you start to exhibit any of these symptoms, it might be time to schedule an appointment with our experienced chiropractor.

Why work with a healthcare team that doesn’t understand the CDL process? At Lance O’Connor D.C. Chiropractic, we’ve handled hundreds of these exams for our patients. We are familiar with all necessary requirements and can help ensure you have what you need when you finally visit the department of transportation to apply.
